It does NOT mean that God has left you, that he doesn’t care, or that perhaps he doesn’t even exist. It means that YOU ARE HAVING A THOUGHT. And that thought is creating a feeling of distance…
Here’s the truth. God tells us he will never leave us nor forsake us. He tells us he will search for the ONE sheep that has gone missing, even though he still has 99 sheep left in his flock (The individual matters).
He tells us he knows us inside and out – the thoughts IN our heads and the number of hairs ON them. He tells us that he has plans for us, that he loves us as a father loves his children…
BUT…
NONE of that will feel true while we are thinking and believing something ELSE. Something that makes us feel alone, isolated, powerless, unloved, or afraid.
Thoughts like:
- “It seems like God isn’t listening.”
- “Maybe God cares more about his plan than my pain.”
- “If God really cared about me, he wouldn’t have let my mother/father/spouse/child die.”
- “If God really wanted me to love him, he would talk to me like he talked to people in the Bible.”
- “God couldn’t love me if he knew what I had done.”
Those thoughts are the reason you don’t feel God. NOT his absence…
SO WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
1. Reach out to God. Ask him to show you any sin in your life. Get help eradicating the sin that he shows you…
2. Seek scripture that tells you the truth about God’s love and closeness to you. Write it down. Memorize it. Meditate on it.
3. Spend more time with people who live for Christ. Watch as God loves you through them…
4. Decide to live for a period of time as though God really were right next to you, listening to your every plea, acting always for your benefit. See how your life is different when you choose to believe that…
5. Hit me up for coaching. This is too important not to.
